Synthesis and characterization of perylene dye and its optical and thermal properties

The N,N′-di(4-pyridyl)-3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid bisimide (DPPBI) was synthesized by 4-aminopyridine(AP),3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride(PTCDA),quinoline and anhydrous zinc acetate.The chemical structure of this compound was characterized by elemental analysis,13C NMR,1H NMR,FT-IR and UV-Vis.The thermal gravimetric analysis of DPPBI was studied.The results show that the temperature of 5% weight loss is about 480 ℃ and the DPPBI is a thermostable compound.The fluorescence spectrum of DPPBI were studied,the results show that the fluorescence intensity is strongest at 524.5 nm in acetone.The DPPBI/TiO2 powders were prepared using DPPBI sensitizing TiO2.The light Absorption properties of DPPBI/TiO2 powders were studied by UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(UV-Vis DRS).The results show that DPPBI/TiO2 extends the optical Absorption spectra from UV to visible light region(400 to 640 nm).
