Characterization for micro mechanical properties of cementitious materials by nanoindentation technique

Micro mechanical properties of cement paste and paste with fly ash were studied to get better characterization of their microstructure and developing mechanism.Micro mechanical properties of different pastes were tested by nanoindentation technique.The elastic modulus and hardness of indented area are calculated and mapped in a 2D plane.After that,multi peak fitting were carried out for the frequency plots of the tested parameters by Gaussian function.And the statistical distribution of the micro mechanical properties was summarized for the hydrates in cementitious paste,including the capillary pores,low density C-S-H,high density C-S-H and portlandite.It's indicated that the hydrates of paste may change due to the variation of composition of cementitious material,water to binder ratio and hydration age.Especially the packing of the C-S-H may be influenced.And it will bring changes to the macro mechanical property of the cementitious materials.
