Influence factor analysis on hysteretic behavior of weak-axis cover-plate connections of I-section column in frame side joint

In order to apply the cover-plate to the weak-axis connections of I-section column,a newbox-strengthened joint region connection for the weak axis of I-section column is put forward. After simulating and verifying the mechanical behavior of cover-plate joint under cyclic loading,variable parameter analysis under lowcyclic loading is employed by the finite element method to study the effects of various factors on the hysteretic behavior of the joint. Results showthat the maximum plastic rotation is greater than 0. 03 rad; the plastic hinge appears in the beam section of the end of the cover plate,with joint region still being in elastic state,which accords with the seismic design principles of "strong column and weak beam "and"strong joint region". For the newweak-axis connections,the following recommendations are proposed: the rectangular cover-plate can be chosen; the maximum length of cover plate should be limited within 0. 5 times beam section height,and the thickness of cover plate can be taken as 0. 5 times the thickness of beam flange; and the axial compression ratio should be controlled to be less than 0. 6.
