STUDIES ON THE TAXONOMY AND THEIR FLORISTIC GEOGRAPHY OF CARAGANA FABR. (LEGUMINOSAE) IN LOESS PLATEAU AND QINLING MOUNTAINS

There are fatally 23 sepcies in Caragana Fabr. belonging to 5 floristic elements in this area (tab. 1) . They are: Endemia 6 species; Central asiatic 10 species; Sibiria-north China 2 species; Sin.-Himalaya 4 species; Sibiria-central siatic alpine 1 species. In view of this, the central asiatic element existing in the desert and steppe occupies an important place in the area, especially in loess plateau. The genus has 3 sorts of folial type including pinnate, pinnate+pseudopalmate and pseudopalmate (clustered). The pinna might be original groups, and their developmental trend could be as follows: pinnate→pinnate+pseudopalmate→pseudopalmate→clustered. The most original type in the pinnate groups would be not only pinna but also deciduous rachis. So that the widely distributional Caragana arborescens Lam. and its related species C. boissii Schn. and C. turdestanica Kom. should be the most original type in this genus. The developmental trend shows the unification with others of their same subtribe to be accompanied by the xerophytic condition, for example Astragalus and Oxytropis. Besides, all the pinna is diploid and the tetraploid species are mainly in the pseudopalmate groups. Therefore, it can provide evidence that the pinnate groups are original. The origin of Caragana Fabr.might be differentiated from the woody group of Astragalus L. in forest environments. Perhaps, owing to the much more later original period (Tertiary), they can not entre into the north America and Japan before the disappearance of the American continent bridge and the separation between the Chinese and Japanese continent. The original place, perhaps, might be the Tianshan—Pamir, but not Angara land (V. L. Komarov 1909). because the Tianshan-Pamir areas present now the varied Taxa of the genus and where it is more close to the differentiated centre of their related genera. Therefore, the Caragana sinica Rehd. from the east of China is not the original type as supposed by V. L. Komarov (1909) . So the original centre of the genus is not the Angara land (the East of China) .
