BREEDING AND CYTOGENETIC STUDY OF TRITICUM AESTIVUM-PSATHYROSTACHYS HUASHANICA ALIEN SUBSTITUTION LINES

Crosses were made between nullisomic wheat and Triticum aestivum-Psathy-rostachys huashanica heptaploid (2n = 49, AABBDDN ), and the F1 plants were back-crossed twice to their respective nullisomic wheat. The plants with 2n = 41 of BC2 F1were selected by microscope and selfed. The frequency of disomic substitutinn plants de-rived from selfed monosomic substitution plants was 23. 16%. The 21 bivalents at MI inthe PMCs of 5A and 3D alien substitution lines averages 84. 52% and 62. 61% respec-tively. Alien substitution lines are vigorous and fertile,indicating that the alien chromo-somes are able to compensate for the missing chromosomes.
