The somatic embryogenesis and its histological characteristics of Zizyphus jujuba Mill.

The somatic embryos were induced from embryonic calli that were induced from cotyledon explants of rare breed of jujuba Linze Chinese date.The embryoids successively differentiated through globular shaped,heart shaped and cotyledon stages,which was similar to the development of zygotic embryo.The histological study revealed that the cells of non embryonic calli derived from leaf were large in size,with small nucleus,thin cytoplasm,however,the cells of embryonic were small in size,with large nucleus and dense cytoplasm.Vascular system and vessel element in cotyledonary embryoid was also observed.
