QTL mapping for polygenic resistance and its application in crop breeding for durable disease resistance

QTL mapping has been developed as a powerful tool in studying the genetic basis of complex traits and locus-locus interactions.Polygenic resistance is generally quantitative without clear race specific effects.With the development of molecular makers technology,the mapping of major QTLs contributing to quantitative resistance become feasible,indicating great potential in plant breeding for durable resistance.It also benefits the isolation of genes with broad-spectrum resistance.In this paper,the progress in QTL mapping for polygenic resistance in crop plants was described,including construction of mapping population (F1,F2,DH,RIL,BIL and NIL),measurement of resistant phenotypes,marker-assisted selection and so on.
