Nitric oxide (NO) is a signaling molecule of plant irritability response to environment

Recently, nitric oxide (NO) emerged as a key signalling molecule in plants has been paid large attention to it by a lot of experts. Here we outline how the biotic and abiotic stresses, including pathogen invading and drought, salinity, temperature extreme, mechanical damage, ozone and ultraviolet etc, were coupled with NO signaling molecule in plant cell as well as their cascade pathways in signaling transduction. The review covers the biological processes likely to be mediated by NO, and discuss the downstream signalling processes by which NO exerts its cellular physiological effects. Intracellular signalling responses to NO involve generation of cGMP, cADPR, and NO synergetic function with other signaling molecules, such as ROS, SA, ABA and so on. It is indicated that the NO burst induced by various stress is an important component of signaling cascade pathway in activating, priming and preparing plant cell. This enable plant cell to be excitable or irritable and rapidly response to these stresses, Ultimately, induce the adaptive plasticity to different environments.
