Interspecific and Intraspecific Cross Compatibility of Kiwi Fruits'

In order to provide scientific basis on the crossing of kiwi fruits and choose the best pollination trees,we used kiwi fruit trees of several species as test materials.The culture method were introduced to observe the pollen vitality;while fluorescence microscope severed as a tool to study the cross-compatibility among the same and different species,and the fruit setting rate were calculated.The result shows that the pollen vitality was Meiwei kiwi fruitZhonghua kiwi fruitGouzao kiwi fruit;The interspecific and intraspecific hybridization between different varieties of Zhonghua and Meiwei kiwi fruit obtained quick recognition reaction,more pollen attachment,high compatibility and fruit setting rate.However,when Gouzao kiwifruit were introduced to cross with Zhonghua and Meiwei kiwi fruit,slow germination and growth,low compatibility were observed,the fruit setting rate was merely 19.81%.The 'Jinyang'×'Jinyang' combination claimed by far the highest compatibility at 960.33 with a fruit setting rate of 95.56%.The lowest compatibility was reported from 'Gouzao'×'Jinyang' combination at 201.60,and its fruit setting rate was 12.22%.It was found that the compatibility of kiwi fruits' interspecific crossing was lower than that of intraspecific crossing;different varieties of kiwi fruit from the same species showed difference in compatibility and fruit setting rate either;Compatibility index had close correlation with fruit setting rate,hence the selection of pollination trees is significantly important.
