On the basis of long term observations on the water balance of Shapotou area,this paperconstructs a mathematical model of plant niche fitness.Aquantitative analysis of the fitnesses ofArtemisia ordosica and Caragana korshinskii under different densities and their spatio temporalchange is presented.The results show that the niche fitness is maximized at the density of 2500plants/hm ̄2,which is the most reasonable planting density.
