STUDY OF PHENOLOGY IN SUBALPINE MEADOW COMMUNITY IN GANNAN──CONSIDERING THE MECHANISM OF MAINTAINING SPECIES DIVERSITY IN HERBACEOUS COMMUNITIES

The phenologies of 42 common species in plant community on subdpine meadow have beenstudied in present paper.The results of the study have shown that the 42 plant species are differ-ent each other in the time order of recruitment,ratio of individuals in reproductive growth to to-tal individuals per population,and the time at which plants begin to grow with reproduction andduration os reprodtictive growth.The 42 species can be classified into three groups according totheir order of recruitment time.Recruiting time of grasses and sedges is early and the time of theperennial dicotyledon species is later in growing season,The 42 species can be grouped into fourcategories according to proportion of the individuals to total individuals of each species. One is thegroup that the individuals in sexual reproduction growth account for 20%and most individualsreproduction by clonal growth.Second category is componented of the species with traits bothsexual reproduction and vegetative reproduction.The third category is componented of thespecies that those sexual individuals account for over 50%and the fourth category is component-ed of the species that all the individuals of population performance sexual reproduction. The 42species can be grouped into three categories accounding to the time at which plants begin to growwith sexual reproduction. However,no two plant species are identical completely in the pheno-logical form each other arnong the 42 species.The results above have revealed that the interspecific competition for resources(such as min-eral nutrient in soil)is reduced by staggering in the time of their growth and development,whereby many species can coexistence in a community.
