RELATIONSHIPS OF OXYGEN FREE RADICALS STRESS AND OCCURRENCE OF VITRIFIED SHOOTS DURING MICROPROPAGATION OF PYRUS “PINGBO NO.1” (PYRUS PYRIFOLIA CULT.VAR.PINGBO NO.1) IN VITRO

itrification of minicuttings also occurred during micropropagation of high quality pyrus shoots In vitro.stress by oxygen free radicals and changes of activities of free radical scavenging enzymes in vitrified pyrus shoots were investigated in the paper.Results show that:in the course of culture of pyrus shoots,activities of peroxidase (POD),catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in both normal and vitrified shoots increase universially,so do the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA).These suggest the occurrence of oxygen free radicals accumulation and lipid peroxidation in normal and vitrified shoots.Results also show that :activities of CAT and SOD and soluble protein content in vitrified shoots are lower than those in normal shoots,but MDA levels in vitrified shoots is higher than that in normal shoots,which mean vitrified shoots are stressed and distroyed by oxygen free radicals more heavily than normal shoots.
