Study on introduction and breeding of improved breeds of seabuckthorn in the semiarid loess hilly region

Authors made study on introduction and breeding of improved breeds of seabuckthorn in the loess semiarid region at Ansai and Wuqi county Shaanxi Province in 1985-1998.Through introduced more 20 fine form of seabuckthorn from different source of geographical seeds in our country,introduced fine species of seabuckthorn of Russian,used method of family selection to make the experiment,it was selected to 5 species of eco economical form and 2 species of economical form.The former have characters of fast growth,quick canopy density,fine crown,developed roots,fine benefit of soil and water conservation,and bigger fruit (diameter of fruit reach 0.8-0.9 cm,weight per 100 fruit is 20-31 g),yield of fruit of one planted is 2-3 kg,higher Vc and oil content,its properties of ecology and economy is better than native wild seabuckthorn.Seabuckthorn of eco economical form is fit for large scale planting on wastegully and waste slope of hilly region.Contraction and analysis between introduced,big fruit and no thorn,fine species of seabuckthorn of Russian and locally wild seabuckthorn showed that resistibility and adaptability of the former are worst than that of the latter,but good economical properties.Two fine species of good economical properties were selected by experiments,its diameter of fruit is 0.8-1.3 cm,weight per 100 fruit is 30-52 g,Yield of fruit of one planted is 2-3.5 kg,and few or no thorn.On waste gully and waste slope of loess hilly region,it has important significance to large scale construct seabuckthorn plant of high production and good quality,and high beneficial and sustained develop seabuckthorn industrial through the study.In the introduced experiments,we should master technology of introduction and breeding,constructing garden of gathering tassel and seeds,constructing certain scale seabuckthorn garden of high and steady production and breeding base of fine species.We should master technology of management and tending,specially manure and water.
