Application of the Laser Scattering Theory for Monitoring Steam Wetness and Droplet Size in Steam Turbines

Moisture in steam not only reduces the efficiency of steam turbines,but may also cause serious blade corrosion,and thus may impair a steam turbine's profitability and its safety of operation.Based on the theory of laser scattering and Mie's theory,a way of measurement is being proposed which makes use of semi-conductor laser emitted rays of three different wavelengths,which can on-line determine the wetness and the droplet size as well as its distribution in the last stage of a steam turbine,and thus provide direct data for monitoring the harm that the turbine may incur.Figs 5,table 1 and refs 11.
