Numerical Simulation of the Crosswind Effect on Direct Air Cooling System

Natural wind especially the crosswind has serious effect on the safety and economic operation of direct air-cooled units.Based on the commercial software FLUENT,the three-dimensional numerical research of the crosswind effect on air-cooled platform has been done by k-ε model.The influence of crosswind with different velocities on the temperature and velocity field of the air-cooled platform has been analyzed.The simulation results show that the diffusion of hot air above the air-cooled platform will be blocked and the hot air recycle and reversed flow will become worse with the enhancement of the crosswind velocity.The unit's normal operation would be affected seriously.The air-cooled platform's optimization measures of adding baffle among the air cooled radiators and stretching the windbreak downward have also been proposed.The experiences show that is can effectively restrain the hot air recycle.
