Abstract The calculation of gas-liquid two-phase flow frictional pressure loss is one of the most fundamental and important problems in two-phase flow inves tigations. However, the only limited work has been done in studying high pressure steam-water two-phase flow friction pressure loss in rifled tubes.Theoretical analysis and experimental date are also scarce. This paper presents a survey concerning research on characteristics of two-phase flow friction pressure losses in rifled tubes, and describes relevant experimental work performed in the high pressure steam-water loop of Xi'an Jiaotong University. The experimental results are discussed. Based on the experimental data, correlation for the calculation of the frictional pressure drop in rifled tubes is presented. The test tubes are φ28 ×5.41mm 12Cr1MoV four lead rifled tubes used in 600 MW super critical variable-pressure once-through boilers. The range of experimental parameters is as follow: pressure 13 to 22 MPa, mass velocity 400 to 1800 kg/m2·s, steam dryness 0 to 1.0.
