SOME GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CARBONATES IN LUOCHUAN LOESS, SHAANXI PROVINCE

Geng Ansong Wen Qizhong(Institute of Geochemistry, Academia Sinica Guiyang)
A. method for determining the contents of primary and secondary calcites in loess has been established, and two geochemical indices applicable to loess-climatic stratigraphy have been proposed. Our studies indicate that: 1) carbonates in the Luochuan loess are mainly of secondary origin; 2) the primary and secondary calcites in the Luochuan loess are mid-Mg calcite and low-Mg calcite, respectively; and 3) the stable isotopic composition of carbonates in the,Luochuan loess is typical of freshwater carbonates.
