Investigation on the hydrocarbon regeneration from sedimentary organic mattersby pyrolytic simulation

Both the natural and artificial maturity coal series samples are analyzed. The pyrolytic simulation method is employed to determine hydrocarbon regeneration amount from the sedimentary organic matters. The results indicate that the hydrocarbon regeneration does not continue the evolution tendency of the first hydrocarbon generation of the sedimentary organic matters. No matter how the initial maturity, there is a hydrocarbon generation peak in the process of the hydrocarbon regeneration of the sedimentary organic matters, and it is lager than that of the continuous hydrocarbon generation. The lagging is enhanced with the initial maturity increasing. In addition, the hydrocarbon regeneration amount is relate to the initial maturity too, and is greater than that of the continuous hydrocarbon generation when the initial maturity is in the low middle stage (Ro 0.5%~0.9%), and the dispersion between of them is increasing with the initial maturity raising, whereas it is reducing when in the middle high stage (Ro 0.9%~1.3%). The hydrocarbon regeneration amount is rapidly decreasing and lower than that of the continuous hydrocarbon generation when the initial maturity is over the "deadline"of the oil generation. At the same time, the activation energy has evolved through four stages in the pyrolyzed simulation, highly matching to the hydrocarbon regeneration evolution procedure. This perfect matching indicates the strict constraint of the geochemical mechanism of the reaction kinetics on the hydrocarbon regeneration. This study on the hydrocarbon regeneration amount from the sedimentary organic matters proved a theory evidence for the oil and gas exploration.
