Kinetics modeling of stable carbon isotopes of coal-generated methane and its significance for gases accum ulation in the Kuqa Depression,Tarim Basin

The kinetic modeling of methane stab le carbon isotope ratio is based on re action kinetics,which becomes more and more prefect.The main core o f modeling technique is that methane could be divided into 13 CH 4 and 12 CH 4 and they could be taken as two differe nt matters with different hydrocarb on generation parameters.The confined system pyrolysis is carried out usin g Jurassic coal from the Tarim Basin a nd the variances in the stable carbon isotope values of methane in pyrolysis products are analyzed.Generally,the isotope values of coal-generated methane are heavier.The isotope values show a complex trend,i.e.,at fir st the isotope values become lighter,and then get heavier and heavier with increasing pyrolysis temperature,whi ch is due to heterogeneity of coal.Wh en coal deposited,there were not only high p lant inputs,but also some hydrophyte ones.They combined into a unit,coal,but had different activation energies and stable carbon isotope compositions.Combined the temperature-hi story of the Kuqa Depression with the variance in stable carbon isotope,an isotop e modeling is performed through software developed by ourselves.The results indicate that the coal-generated gases had accumulated from the beginni ng of hydrocarbon generation of coal measure to Kuqa stage(5.3~2.0Ma B.P.),when the backrush faults moved strongly and cut through the Tertiary seal rocks.
