Thermochronologic information from the Tan-Lu fault zone and its relationship with the exhumation of the Dabie Mountains

The 40Ar/39Ar ages of the muscovite samples T28-12 and T28-13 from mylonite of the earlier Tan-Lu ductile shear belt on the eastern margin of the Dabie Mountains are (181.4±0.5) Ma and (181.6±0.8) Ma, respectively, which indicates the existence of a syn-orogenic, sinistral strike-slip thermal event of the Tan-Lu fault zone and its cooling age is 181 Ma. This displacement movement derived from continent-continent collision of the North and South China blocks took place in Early Jurassic and after the exhumation of the principal part of HP-UHP slabs to middle crust. It is suggested that during the collision the Tan-Lu fault zone was an intracontinental transform fault caused by SE directed exhumation of HP-UHP slabs of the Dabie Mountains. The 40Ar/39Ar ages of mylonite muscovite and biotite from the later Tan-Lu ductile shear zone suggest another sinistral strike-slip cooling event at 139 Ma. During this strike-slip faulting, large-scale intrusion and doming uplift happened in the eastern part of the Dabie Mountains. The 40Ar/39Ar data of plagioclase from mylonite indicate a high-speed cooling event experienced by the Tan-Lu fault zone which took place at 97~92 Ma. Apatite fission-track analyses show that another high-speed cooling event experienced by the Tan-Lu fault zone which took place at 45~58 Ma. They correspond respectively to two phases of extensional activities in Late Cretaceous and Eogene as well as development of the Qianshan fault-controlled basin to the east of the Tan-Lu fault zone. The cooling times recorded by K-feldspar and apatite show that uplifting in the Dabie Mountains was earlier than that on the eastern margin occupied by the Tan-Lu fault zone. These phenomena suggest that uplifting of the Dabie Mountains during Late Cretaceous to Eogene was not controlled by the Tan-Lu normal faulting, but as a result of its lithospheric delamination.
