C37-C38 methyl and ethyl alkenones containing 2-4 double bonds and a series of C29-C31 3β-ethoxy cholestanes have heen detected in sediments from hypersaline Soda Lake (pH = 9.4-10.0, salinity 50 g / L). An unusual assembly of biomarkers occurs in the sediments and organic matter originated from both terrestrial plants and aquatic organisms, but mainly from land. Sedimentary environment in the lake was unstable with violently variation in Pr / Ph ratios, which is mainly controlled by salinity and alkanes distribution types, etc.
