Adsorption of phenol on inorganic organic pillared montmorillonite

Both inorganic and organic pillared montmorillonites are used to adsorb phenol, and their suitable conditions and adsorption isotherms of adsorbing phenol are s tudied. It reveals that using modified pillared montmorillonite with surfactant can improve the adsorbing capacity greatly. The adsorbing capacity of phenol by pillared montmorillonites depends mainly on micropore structure and surface comp onent of modified clays, not only on surface area. After incandescing at 500 ℃, the pillar structure and the interlayer spacing (1.83 nm) are stable still. The refore, the pillared montmorillonite can be used recyclically; it is a potential substance of adsorption of environmental pollutants.
