The investigation of mathematical characteristics of geological bodies is one of the fundamental odjects not only for mathematical geoeogy,but also for many branches of geosciences. Arbitrary geological phenomena can be seen as a set of spatial distributed numbers, which is assigned to geological bodies according to its features. Mathematical characteristics are therefore the regularities of these numbers in geometrical, spatial, statistical and structural aspects. All these characteristics are important guides in recognition of the genesis of geological bodies and the history of geological processes. For example, the mixed frequency distributions of total iron content in several investigated iron ore deposits are wonderfully coinsident with the stages of mineraliziti-on.The tin-bearng granites can be distinguished from the tin-barren granites by frequency distributions of Sn-concentration, etc. The principal mathematical characteristics are the following: 1 . Function of distribution and its parameter estimation. 2. Function of trend and residual analysis. 3. Function of entropy and the homogeneity of geological fields. 4 . Function of correlation and structure of principl components. Mathematical characteristics depend on the sampling methods and the types of observation. This point should be taken into account when correlation is made between geological bodies, while using the criteria of mathematical characteristics.
