THE GLOBAL SEISMOTECTONIC SYSTEMS

According to the distribution of earthquakes and their tectonic features,the global seismotectonics can be divided into three systems: (A) The circum-pacific seismotectonic system; (B) the continantal seismotectonic system; and (C) the ocean-ridge seismotectonic system. The tectonic style and kinematic feature of these seismotectonic system are quite different. The circum pacific seismotectonic system is zone of convergence, with tasic character of oceanic crust subduction. It is emphatically illustrated that the phenomena of downthrust plate which are divorced by croos fault to a lot of straps of plate.The important differences in expression of geology and geophysic for a variety of dip-angle in different straps are discussed. The continental seismotectonic system is a new proposed concept, deffer from the Alipe Himalayan seismic zone. It has five important tectonic feat ures: ( 1 ) continantal quakes are predominant in the northern hemisphere, and distribute in the latitudinal zone within 20°-50°N, through the Eurasian and North American continent; ( 2 ) it can be divided into four seismotectonic regions: the sino Mongolian,the Iran-Afghanistan Parkistan, East-Mediter-rcan and North America. Each reagion are divided by langitudinal mid axid tcctonic belt into eastern and western balf region, both are antisymmetric in seismicity; (3) Soures are shallow, strong events dominantly occur in the raid layer of continental crust-granitic layer; (4) epicenters densely concentrated in NE, NW, EW and SN zones, which form an intersect netework; ( 5 ) the southern margin at the western half of those four seismotectonic regions are gentle arcs which convex toward southwest. These belts are the collision zone between continental crust, with densely distributed middle depth earthquakes at the ends of the arcs. The ocean ridge seismotectonic system is a composite fault zone consists both rift and transform fault in ocean crust. In the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian oceans the ridges are nearly langitudinal, while in the Antarctic it is the lantitudinal. The langitudinal ridges joint with the lantitudinal one form triple junctions with Y-type or T-type, that is a combined extensional movement. The harmonious movement of these three global seismotectonic system unitedly occurred in the rotational earth with nonhomogeneous speed. The united action of globe, regional and local dynamic facters dicides the movement of the globe seismotectonics.
