THE POSSIBLE APPLICATION OF THE MODEL OF THE LATE MESOZOIC FAULT BASIN IN NORTHEAST CHINA IN THE PREDICTION OF DEEP GAS FROM COAL IN SONGLIAO AREA

The authors have suggested a concept of the Late Mesozoic fault basin system in Northeast Asia and have also confirmed that the Songliao basin group is a part of the system. Subsequently, the fault basin model suggested can be used in the prediction of deep gas from coal in Songliao area. The prediction of the deep gas-producing source rocks can be proceeded by the sedimentary parameters of the model. It has been verified that this kind of the basin usually contains tremendously thick coal seams. At the same time, the three-dimentional model of the fault basin facies can be used to help the interpretation of the seismic data, the division of the facies zones and the determination of the volume of the source rocks. According to the characteristics of the organism changes in the fault basin and the settling and heating history of Songliao basin, it has been worked out that the deep Mesozoic coal in both Songliao and Xialiao basins has entered a stage of high rate gas production.
