THE STUDY ON THE PALAEOCLIMATIC LONG-TERM VARIATION OF THE SPELEOTHEM (STALAGMITE) COLLECTED FROM LUOHUZI CAVE IN GUILIN, CHINA

The authors, using the mass analyzer and electron probe microanalyzer, have made a successive and synchronous study of the δ13C,δ18O and elementary content of the stalagmite with high precision and high density, and obtained the following result of the long-term variation of palaeoclimate in the region of Guilin. 1. For the period from 6500 to 3000aB.P., the δ18O result of the stalagmite might serve as the indicator of the long-term variation of the palaeotemperature in Guilin. The result shows that the palaeotemperature during the period did not vary very much, and that the δ18O result of the stalagmite over the 3000aB.P. could not serve as the indicator of the long-term variation of the palaeotemperature. 2. Over the 3000 aB.P. or so there might have been three violent attacks of corrosion. 3. Over the 3000a B. P. or so there seems to have been three unusual palaeoclimatic changes characterized by the increase of rainfall.
