APPLICATION OF MT IN THE NORTHEAST OF TALIMU BASIN AND ITS PRELIMINARY GEOLOGICAL RESULTS

The first application of MT for studying the regional geological structures and the deep geoelectric structures in the northwest of Talimu Basin and it's main geological results are introduced in this paper. The equipment used in MT data acqui-sition was PROMT-3 manufactured by Geotronics company of U. S. A. Because the new effective methods of data processing, such as the curve smoothing and the static correction were used besides the traditional methods, and the MT curves were interpreted by several inversion methods, the interpretation accuracy increases and the nonuniqueness of inversion reduces, and the results are satisfied. From this, we determined the relationship between the north side of Talimu Basin and the foldbelt of Tianshan mountain, and obtained the new understanding of the regional structures in the northeast Talimu Basin and the thrust faults in Tian-shan mountain area. It was predicted that there would be three sets of stratum particularly with Paleozoic strata in Kuche depression. This is important for oil and gas exploration in the area.
