A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON MAGNETIC STRATIGRAPHY OF THE GEOLOGICAL SECTION WITH THE FOSSIL BED OF YUNXIAN HOMO OF HUBEI

Yan Guilin (China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074)
Two skull fossils of homo, which was called "Yunxian homo",were found in Yunxian of Hubei during 1989-1990. This paper presents results of magnetic stratigraphy and pa-leoenvironment of the section with the fossil bed. RM (remanent magnetization)、X(magnetic susceptibility);and AMS (anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility) of 78 specimens in the section were measured. It was determined that the age of the fossil bed of Yunxian homo is 0. 83 ~ 0. 87Ma and the homo lived in the paleoclimatic environment transformed from cold to warm.
