MIDDLE ORDOVICIAN-LOWER CARBONIFEROUS OF SINO-KOREAN PLATFORM AND ITS PALEOGEOGRAPHY AND STRUCTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

The Sino-Korean Platform is the largest Early Precambrian Craton in East Asia. It was widely accepted that the platform lacks all the strata from the Middle Ordovician to the Lower Carboniferous. However, the strata are discovered recently on the edge of the Sino-Korean Platform, some of which (the Middle and Upper Ordovician in the west of North China , for instance) are continentally marginal deposit. The Paleozoic on the platform has the same deposit nature and has integrate evolutionary tendency. This indicates that the platform is a complete continent instead of pieces of continental blocks. In the Early Paleozoic, the interior of the Sino-Korean Platform was mainly affected by the passive continental margin from the south and the seawater came from the Paleo-Qinling Ocean, while the Devonian seawater of Korea came from the east. In Carboniferous Period, because of the percussion between the Sino-Korean Platform and the Siberian Plateform, the seawater was forced towards the south. It is not appropriate to compare the so called"Limjingang Zone"on the Korean Pennin-sular with the Qinling Orogenic Zone. The confirmation of the continental margin in the west edge of the Ordos Basin shows that the Alashan Block was not a part of the Sino-Korean Platform in the Early Paleozoic. Extensive continental margin around the periphery of the Sino-Korea Platform indicate it is a integrated block, it seems unlikely that Sino-Korea and Yangtze Blocks originated from a united "China Platform
