Ding Yuanchen Sun Baoshan Wang Xihai Shao Zhaogang Zhou Xingui (Institute of Geomechanics, CAGS, Beijing100081)  
The magnitude of present maximum principal stress of Northern Tarim oil field is determined by means of AE and the relationship between the magnitude and the depth is given, a conclusion can be made that the magnitudes of maximum principal stress of oil well producing are lower than those of non oil wells at the same depth in the Northern Tarim oil field. A similar situation between pay beds and non pay beds in the wells producing oil is shown. It seems that the above conclusion can be used as a criterion in determining oil producer.
