Analysis on coning control of bottom water reservoir

Bottom water coning is an important factor affecting reservoir development effect, causing earlier water breakthrough, rapid water cut increase and production decrease. Shut-in coning control is one of the methods people usually use, but it has not ideal effect. This paper analyzes theoretically poor effect of coning control: bottom water coning drive is production pressure difference of oil well with strong water coning force and high speed, while coning control drive is water and oil gravity difference with weak coning control force and low speed. It uses numerical simulation method to study coning control effect. Simulation results shows that water cut increases rapidly after coning control to the level before coning control and oil production increases a little but too little compared with the production loss during oil well shut-in. It suggests not to use shut-in coning control method to deal with water coning effect.
