Analysis of the Influence of Meteorological Conditions on the Atmospheric Visibility in Hefei City

Using conventional observational data of visibility and meteorological elements in Hefei,climatic variation characteristics of visibility and meteorological factors in Hefei and the correlation coefficient between visibility and meteorological elements were analyzed during the period from 1980 to 2005.The results show that visibility has the daily,seasonal and yearly variation features.It is the highest at 14:00 in summer and the lowest at 08:00 in winter.The visibility in Hefei decreased from 1980 to 1997,and then had little change after 1997.It indicates that the correlation is negative between visibility and humidity,even it changes within 24 hours.There is a positive correlation between visibility and surface wind speed,and temperature,but the correlation between visibility and pressure is complex.There is a negative correlation between yearly variation of fog days,haze days and visibility.It seems that high humidity(≥95%),slight wind speed on the surface(≤2 m/s)and fog are the main meteorological conditions to result in low visibility.
