A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO ADVANCES IN EARTH-ATMOSPHERE COUPLING

Tang Maocang Dong Wenjie (Lanzhou Institute of Plateau Atmospheric Physics,Academia Sinica,Gansu 730000,PRC)  
Advances in the interaction between the Earth and the atmosphere during recent 10 years are brieflyintroduced and the causes of natural disasters(include meteorological disaster and seismic disaster)are ex-plored from the point of view of earth system in this paper.Based on concluding and reviewing the studieson earth-atmosphere coupling,before,a hypothesis of mantle convection rhythm is put forward and thehypothesis is used to explain relationships between plate-boundary earthquake,earth rotation and ELNino;a hypothesis of microscale and mesoscale convection occurring in the mantle and principle of con-servation of absolute votticity are used for discussing relationships between intraplate earthquake,geothermal flow and distribution of drought and water-logging.In the last section of the paper,someviews about studies on earth-atmosphere coupling in the future are given.
