PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION ON GEODYNAMIC BACKGROUND OF MESOZOIC GOLD METALLOGENY IN EASTERN NORTH CHINA— With examples from eastern Shandong Province

Most recently it was demonstrated by isotopic age dating that the most gold deposits in Shandong Province were formed during a short time interval of 115±15 Ma (Earlier Cretaceous), no matter what mineralization type, what kind of geological setting, and where occurred. This fact implies that all the gold deposits might be constraint by a single event at that time. Carbon and oxygen isotope composition of carbonates in gold ores indicates that CO 2 in ore forming fluids was probably derived from deep interior of the Earth (lithospheric mantle or deeper). Interesting that Earlier Cretaceous was coincided with the key time span of transform of geodynamic regime in eastern North China during Mesozoic, that is, the key time span for strong magmatic activity (particularly magmas of mantle sources), strong extensional tectonic process, strong lithospheric thinning, high speed subduction of western Paleo Pacific plate under Euro-Asian plate, and rising of a possible deep superplume. Thereafter, most of the gold deposits in Shandong Province, or even in the whole eastern North China, was genetically constraint by material/energy rising process during Earlier Cretaceous.
