Application of Geophysical Technology for Archeology and Preservation of Cultural Relics in China

ZHONG Shi-hang (China Academy of Railway Sciences, Beijing 100081, China)  
The ability of geophysical technologies to solve problems about archeology and preservation of cultural relics has more and more be acknowledged by archeologists, workers of preservation of cultural relics and geophysicists since 1980s. Geophysical technologies have fount chances to give play to itself ability to survey ancient coffin chambers, prospect the underground civilizationsof great ancient constructions and to give division of history into periods of historic sites and antiques. In the paper the author give information about progresses of application of geophysical technologies on the region of archeology and preservation of cultural relics by means of showing the survey examples on Longmen Grottos, Yungang Grottos, Kezier Grottos area, area of the Imperial Palace- Forbidden City of Beijing, the foundation of the Songyuesi Pagoda, the ancient civilization of the ancient Sizhou City, the Middle Capital of Min Dynasty in Fengyang, and survey of ancient coffin chambers, giving division of history into periods of historic objects. The author points out the characteristics and prospect of the application of geophysical technologies on archeology and preservation of cultural relics.
