Progress in mantle dynamics——mantle convection

ZHU Tao(Center for Seismological Data and Information, China Seismological Bureau, Beijing 100045, China)  
The research on mantle convection is reviewed systematically. It is found that static mantle convection models (The effects of the earth's rotation or differential rotation is not included) could be well fit some surface observations such as gravity and geoid anomalies, but it is difficult to interpret some global geologic features such as the asymmetry of the 0°and 180°hemisphere. Therefore, a possible way to develop the theory of mantle convection in the future is recommended.
