New progresses in apatite fission track analysis

In this paper, some major progresses in fundamental studies of apatite fission track (AFT) analysis during the past decade are reviewed, which include the kinetic parameters that affect AFT annealing and their effects, multikinetic model for inverse modeling of AFT data, AFT dating using laser ablation ICP-MS and Automated AFT analysis. In addition, some problems remaining debatable are summarized, including the pressure dependence or independence of AFT annealing; the discrepancy between AFT and apatite (U-Th)/He ages; and the combination of specific geological AFT annealing data to re-calibration of existing AFT annealing models. At last some prospects of the AFT analysis are concluded.
