The effects of dipping interface and anisotropic layer on the result of H-κ method

The effects of transverse anisotropy and dipping isotropic boundaries on H-κ method are studied by examining azimuthal variations of H-κ stacking results using control variable method.The five parameters studied are dip angle of dipping interface,depth of dipping interface,magnitude of anisotropy,thickness of anisotropic layer,and dip angle of fast axis of anisotropic layer.Our results show that dipping interface makes H smaller and κ bigger than the true value for those azimuths along or around the down dip direction but the H-κ stacking results along or around the up dip direction are close to the true value.Anisotropic layer with horizontal fast axis makes H larger than the true value for all azimuths and H estimates for different azimuths little change.Smaller κ estimates are obtained for those azimuths which have smaller angle with the fast axis and the deviation is proportional to the magnitude of anisotropy and the thickness of the anisotropic layer.Overestimated and underestimated of H value are all exist in anisotropic layer with dip fast axis.The variation of κ value with different azimuths is about the same in the anisotropic layer no matter with horizontal axis or dip axis.
