ADVANCE IN THE TIDAL RHYTHMITES AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR THE ASTRO-GEOLOGY

Wu Zhiyong(Jianghan Petroleum Institute. Jiangling, Hubei, 434102)
Several modern tidal periods are introduced briefly in present paper. On such a basis, the abroad status for study of cyclic tidal sediments, especially tidal rhythmiles, in recent decade, and some ancient tidal periods recognized from sediments, which include basic tides(semidiurnal, diurnal and mixed) and neap-spring tides and several long-term fluctuations, have been reviewed systematically. Finally, the implications of tidal rhythmites for the Earth's rotation and the history of the Earth-Moon system in geological past are concluded.
