A STUDY OF THE CRYSTALLINE BASEMENT IN CHAI-DA-MU BASIN BY LOW FREQUENCY REFRACTION SEISMIC METHOD

TSENG JUNG-SHENG KAN YUNG-CH Ho CHUAN-DA LEE PANC-NIAN (Institute of Geophysics and Meteorology,Academia Sinica)
The crystalline basement of Chai-Da-Mu Basin is assumed by geologists to be buried at a depth of more than ten kilometers, and the low frequency refraction seismic method has been applied for determining the depth and relief of the basement. The resonant frequency of the pick-up is 13 cycles/sec,and the lowest resonant frequency of the amplifier is 8 cycles/sec.The largest distance between the pick-up and the shot point exceeds 100 kilometers. This method has been proved to be effective and economic for detecting both the basement relief and sedimen- tary structures. In this paper, field work procedures, methods of interpretation of results and the charac- teristics of the seismic recording instruments are described, while the time-distance curves and their interpretation will be published in another paper.
