DEEP SUB-BASEMENT REFLECTIONS IN THE WESTERN PART OF CHAI-DA-MU BASIN

TSENG JUNG-SHENG KAN YUNG-CHU(Institute of Geophysics and Meteorology, Academia Sinica)
In the records obtained from Chai-Da-Mu Basin by using low-frequency seismic refraction method, many later arrivals have been observed. The event tu was identified as the deep reflection from the interface beneath the basement boundary. The depth of the interface corresponding to t_M was estimated to be 52 kms. under the earth surface. In this paper, the properties of t_M and the method of its resolution are described. The reflection method for exploring the crustal structures is also reviewed briefly.
