On the basis of the finite element solution to elasto dynamic problems, we propose a new method of finite element elastic wave migration. The finite element elastic wave migration takes advantage of its flexibility in finite element space discretization of complex geological and stratigraphic structures, including lateral inhomogeneity.The method has been successfully tested for a layered model. Downward continuation of both the reflected P and converted S simultaneously is stable. The wave forms of both the reflected wave P and the converted wave S are preserved. The results are satisfactory.
