ESTIMATING DEPTHS AND THICKNESS OF ROCK STRATUM BY USING THE POWER SPECTRA OF POTENTIAL FIELDS AND THEIR DERIVATIVES OF DIFFERENT ORDER

In this paper, a series of approximate formulae are derived for estimating the depths to top and bottom of density and magnetic bodies, using the power spectra of gravity and magnetic anomaly fields and their derivatives of different orders. The tests on theoretical models show that the computed depths can meet the accuracy requirement in practical use. Finally, as an example, applying an observed gravity profile, the computed relief of density stratum is given.The method for computing the depths by use of the spectra of vertical or horizontal derivative give support to developing survey with gradiometers.
