Long-periodic astronomical tide and global earthquake energy release

Using USGS global catalog of M≥5.0 seismicity between 1850 and 2012,agroup of time series of global seismic energy release are obtained.The wavelet transform is applied to these time series in order to analyze the quasi-periodic characteristics.The results show that the time series of global seismic energy release contain three quasi-periodic components of 9-year,19-year and 45-year.It is worth noting that the 45-year quasi-periodic component is most obvious.Combined with the physical background of the tidal force period,the correlations between longperiodic astronomical tidal forces and quasi cycles of seismic energy release are discussed.Quasiperiodic component related to the short-periodic astronomical tide is not found in the global seismic energy release.
