LATTICE PREFERRED ORIENTATION OF OLIVINES AND SEISMIC ANISOTROPY IN THE UPPER MANTLE

Olivine-petrofabric data in combination with crystalelastic constants have beenused to calculate velocity anisotropy from mantle-derived xenoliths(1herzolite) inMingxi, Fujian province.It is suggested that seismic anisotropy originates from lattice preferred orientation(LPO) of olivine induced by plastic flow of highly anisotropic olivines. The Patterns of olivine fabric and distribution of Vp, VSV, VSH and△VS with respect to the tectonic setting implies the direction of mantle-matter flowfrom NWW to SEE, which is coincided with the orientation of a-[100] axies(maximum VP direction) of olivine beneath East-South coast region in China.
