GENETIC ALGORITHMS INVERSION OF LITHOSPHERIC STRUCTURE FROM SURFACE WAVE DISPERSION

We apply genetic algorithms to seismic surface wave inversion to deduce lithospheric structure from dispersion data.Synthetic data are used to test the algorithms.It is found that stepwise reduction of the search space based on parameter distribution provides an effective way for the global search.The algorithms are then applied to inversion of lithospheric structure of the Tibetan Plateau from Love wave dispersion data.Alow crustal velocity zone and a high velocity lid in the upper mantle beneath Mound,in agreement with previous studies.
