The mechanism of the Interaction and coalescence between arbitrarily distributed cracks in brittle rocks under the compression has been studied in this paper with the help of the method of pseudotraction. The criteria that can predict the orientation of the fracture of the macro-failure have been derived. In the meantime the paper shows that the direction of the initial shear failure predicted by COU-LOMBcriterion is one of the diterions directions given by the authors. As a practical case, this model has been applied to en echelon cracks.
