THE ATMOSPHERIC VERTICAL CIRCULATION DURING ANOMALOUS PERIODS OF SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE OVER EQUATORIL PACIFIC OCEAN

By using routine rawinsonde data over Pacific region, the mean meridional circulation and zonal-averaged circulation along the equator during anomarous periods of sea surface temperature have been calculated in this paper. The results show that the variation of sea surface temperature in equatorial Pacific region can influence greatly the pattern and the intensity of the atmospheric vertical circulation mentioned above. This paper also discussed the interaction between the two kinds of vertical circulation and its effects on long-term fluctuation of Pacific Subtropical High.
