THE AVERAGE VERTICAL CIRCULATION OVER THE EAST-ASIA AND THE PACIFIC AREA (2) WINTER

This paper is a continuation of "The average vertical circulations over the East-Asia and the Pacific area (1) in summer". In this paper the winter case is analyzed. The main results are given as follows:In winter over the Asiatic continent the vertical circulation is characterized by a strong Hadley circulation with its intensity strongest to the south of Tsinghai-Tibetan Plateau and decreasing eastward. Over middle and east Pacific the vertical circulation shows a strong Ferrel circulation in middle latitudes, but Hadley circulation in low latitudes is quite weak (weaker than that in summer in the same region).
