THE STAGES IN LONG-RANGE VARIATIONS OF THE ATMOSPHERIC CENTRES OF ACTION

Based on the global monthly-mean sea-level pressure data of January and July during the years 1871-1970, the characteristies of long-range variations in the atmospheric centres of action have been examined. The relationship between the stages of variation and the sunspot number, and the influence of the stage's characteristics on statistical forecast have been discussed.The results we have obtained are as follow:1. The characteristics of long-range variations in the global atmospheric centres of action vary obviously with stages and these stage's characteristics normally persist for 40-60 years.2. In the 1930s a number of atmospheric centres of action underwent a remarkable stage-turning.3. The stage-turning of the atmospheric centres of action and the climatic elements in a certain degree are related to the change of sunspot number.
